Finding a Mentor

A Path to Having a Clear Vision of your Passion.

On the first day of my psychology class, my instructor said something that has lingered with me ever since. He said, “If you want to work the system, find yourself a mentor.”. Then, my instructor went on to elaborate that you will always find someone who is willing to guide you.

Also, you have to look for them and be a genuine friend. So, if you haven’t found a mentor yet, you haven’t looked properly for one.

Let me tell you that I found someone that I can call my mentor and it all started with a genuine friendship. Initially, I wasn’t actively looking for a mentor. I was looking for a friend. In addition, I gained much more than that

My beautiful friend and mentor, Elayna Fernandez, has guided me, inspired me and helped me to find my passion.

In January 2019, I had the blessing to attend her Brand your Vision class that inspired me to get back on track and start blogging again. Certainly, I felt like my true self was brought back to the surface.

Elayna’s workshop was a breath of fresh air. It reminded me of the things that I had forgotten. Also, I learned new things in making my vision a reality.

My Takeaways from Brand our Vision class

  • I was reminded of a simple, yet inspiring, quote by Elayna Fernandez. “When you are given a vision, you have the permission to pursue it.” Above all, you are given a vision to follow through with it. There is no reason to ask someone for permission. Ultimately, this is your vision. Go for it!
  • There are only 3 responses that you are responsible for:
    • Behavior. You are in control of the way you behave under any circumstance. Even more, when circumstances are bad.
    • Thoughts. Certainly, your thoughts are yours. So, this means that only you are responsible for keeping them clean and positive.
    • Imagery. Similarly, only you can alter the images that you allow in your mind.
  • Be forgiving of YOURSELF! This one is a big one for me. Sometimes the hardest critique in our lives is ourselves. Learn to forgive yourself. There was a lot of forgiving that I had to do for myself. From the way that I expressed about myself to blaming myself for things that were out of my control.
  • Credibility + Visibility + Vulnerability = Profitability You have to be credible with whatever your vision is. My vision is blogging. Therefore, my writing has to be credible. Otherwise, I won’t be a trusted blogger. Visibility is pretty much self explanatory. Ultimately, it means that your content has clear. Finally, vulnerability means that you have to be able to be true about yourself. Share your sorrows, your happiness and just show everyone who you really are. People want to see true people. All of these things combined are a what brings you Profitability.
  • F. O. C. U. S. We all know the definition of focus. In addition, It also stands for, “Follow One Course Until Success”. At times we can have many things that we want to accomplish. We might not get anything completed if we try to do many things at once. In addition, follow one vision until you see your definition of success. Afterwards, you can build on that vision.

There is much to learn from a mentor. Most noteworthy, surrounding yourself with like-minded people can help as well.

Elayna always has fun surprises for her classroom. In January, Dove, Go Go Squeeze and Bluehost surprised us with treats. Don’t miss out of her next class, Blah to Bold on March 9th.

Telling you the greatness of these classes in one thing, experiencing them for yourself is in a very different ball game. So, don’t miss out on great fun.
